Shinigami
Shinigami are entities from the Shinigami World responsible for prolonging their own existence by writing human names in their Death Notes. They normally observe the human world with detachment and curiosity. Nevertheless, some form unusual bonds with humans, which can directly alter the course of events.
Death Note
The Death Note is a supernatural object capable of killing anyone whose name is written in it, provided the victims face is known. When a human comes into contact with the notebook, they become subject to a strict set of rules that influence decisions, alliances, and consequences throughout the story.
Human users of the Death Note
Not all humans who come into contact with the Death Note share the same objectives. Some use the notebook with a personal sense of justice, others out of manipulation, self-interest, or external pressure. The users behavior completely alters the notebooks impact on the narrative.
Shinigami Eyes
The Shinigami Eyes allow seeing a persons real name and remaining lifespan. To obtain them, the user must accept a deal that halves their own remaining life expectancy. This ability represents a direct trade-off between power and sacrifice.
Real names
Within the rules of the Death Note, knowing someones real name is essential. For this reason, several characters use pseudonyms, false identities, or concealment strategies. This aspect directly affects investigations and confrontations throughout the story.
Wammys House
Wammys House is an institution in England dedicated to educating children with high intellectual ability. Many of Detective Ls successors were trained there, making the institution one of the cornerstones of investigative succession in the story.
SPK (Special Provision for Kira)
The SPK is an organization formed in the United States with the purpose of investigating Kira after changes in the leadership of the original investigation. The group brings together specialized agents and operates independently from Japanese authorities.
Yotsuba Group
The Yotsuba Group is a corporate conglomerate that becomes directly involved with the use of the Death Note during part of the story. The companys involvement shows how the notebook can be used as a strategic tool beyond an individual context.
International law enforcement agencies
Besides the Japanese police, other institutions participate in the investigations related to Kira, including the FBI and foreign government agencies. This expands the conflict beyond Japan and turns the case into a global issue.
Media influence
The media plays an important role in public perception of Kira. Television programs, journalists, and live broadcasts directly influence public behavior and interfere with the strategies adopted by investigators and users of the Death Note.
Shinigami World
The Shinigami World exists separate from the human world and follows its own rules. It is an environment marked by apathy, where the Shinigami observe human life from a distance, rarely interfering directly without a specific reason.
Possession and transfer of the Death Note
The Death Note can change owners multiple times. Whenever this happens, memories related to the notebook can be lost or recovered depending on the situation. This mechanism drastically alters the behavior of some characters throughout the story.
